NAMS State UP Chapter Cell 2023
State Chapter U.P Cell, National Academy of Medical Sciences, India was inaugurated at Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital, Era University, Lucknow on 25th May 2023. Prof. (Dr) S.K Sarin, President, National Academy Of Medical Sciences (India), Director and Chancellor, Institute of Liver and BiIiary Sciences (ILBS) was Chief Guest and Dr. SarojChooramani Gopal, Immediate Past President, National Academy Of Medical Sciences (India) and former Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Lucknow, Dr. DigambarBehera, President elect, DrUmeshKapil, Secretary National Academy Of Medical Sciences (India), LT. Gen Dr. BipinPuri, Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Lucknow, Prof (Dr) RK Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute Of Medical Sciences, Lucknow were guests of honor. Prof (Dr) Farzana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Era University, presided over the function. Prof (Dr) A.A Mahdi, Vice chancellor, Era University, Lucknow, sent his blessings for the function. On this occasion Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Convener, State Chapter (UP), National Academy Of Medical Sciences and Director Medical Education and Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine, ELMCH, Lucknow said that this is the first State chapter cell that is being established in the State of Uttar Pradesh at Era University, and he told that the function of this cell will be to improve all the activities of National Academy Of Medical Sciences in state of Uttar Pradesh including providing opportunity to update knowledge/skills/practices of health professionals, to have effective academic networking with professional bodies/organizations/state health/NGO/stake holder, to assist the state health authorities by identifying important local health policy issues and develop concept/white paper/policy paper for policy makers in the state. He further informed that to carry out these activities a core group will be made from universities, Institutes and various medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Prof Sarin while inaugurating thanked Era university for bringing the new era. He said that DrRajendra Prasad is really exemplary, and said that NAMS aims to give voice to all medicos and that there is no academic institution which represents the government.
He then spoke on how Uttar Pradesh has so many institutes and UP state chapter will become the best. He said on how NAMS is not a society or an association but rather an academy which represents the government, policy makers and fellows from all over the country. He further said that this academy is open to doctors of all different branches. He also spoke on how NAMS has taken an initiative to start the Navigate Medico CME Programme for MD, MS and DNB students which will conduct lectures at regular intervals to cover the practical aspects considering the requirements of PG students. He also said that on every 25th May an annual meeting of UP Chapter should be conducted in which representatives from all medical colleges and various universities will take part. DrUmeshKapil, Secretary National Academy Of Medical Sciences (India), thanked Era University for providing helping hand to DrRajendra Prasad for NAMS activities. He then requested Dr. Prasad to do networking of all medical colleges and to start CME programme sponsored by NAMS and that this programme should be self-sustainable. Prof RK Dhiman, Director, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow congratulated DrRajendra Prasad for starting UP chapter of NAMS and said how the involvement of younger doctors should be encouraged. Dr Lt general BipinPuri Vice Chancellor KGMU spoke on how NAMS was started in 1961 and discussed about milestone of the academy. He further spoke on how collateral thinking is the need of the hour and NAMS is working towards achieving it. He mentioned on how research is an integral part of NAMS and that too translational research. He then explained on how the data is the new currency in this world which should be used to take research to a new level and that a multi centric and collaborative work is the need of the hour. She spoke on how the academy did a wonderful job to identify DrRajendra Prasad as convenor and that he is a dynamic person and is best suited for the job. She further spoke on the value of research in genetic medicine, personalized medicine and regenerative medicine so that we come up with treatments of untreatable diseases. Prof. DrDigambarBehra, President elect spoke how NAMS has a broad spectrum of activities and how they are different from others. DrFarzana Mahdi, Pro Vice Chancellor, Era University then welcomed all the dignitaries and faculty members and expressed desire of VC sir to thank all the members of NAMS. She spoke on how excellence cannot be compromised in education and that we are constantly working on it. She then said how NAMS has already sponsored two CME’s at Era and in future also we will continue to organize these types of CME’s. vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Jamal Masood. This inaugural function was conducted in hybrid mode and was attended by faculty of Era University and 60 fellows of National Academy of Medical Sciences from state of Uttar Pradesh and members of NAMS from various institutes in Lucknow.
